48 Hours In Hong Kong (part two)

The following morning of our short break in Hong Kong we enjoyed a very good breakfast at the Metropark Mongkok. There was a very good selection of hot and cold Asian and International cuisine and the staff on duty were all very welcoming. I like to try something different when overseas so had a mixture of delicious dim sum with a fried egg whilst my husband prefers a more traditional approach to the first meal of the day. After eating, we packed our cases, checked out and the helpful concierge, whose name badge said “Jackie Chan” stored our luggage and we boarded a bus for a pre-booked half day city tour.

City tours are a good way to see the main sights in a short space of time and especially useful in jumping the queues at certain attractions. After crossing over from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island by means of the under-water tunnel, our first stop was at the famous tram up to Victoria Peak. The station is very crowded but our tour guide got us straight to the front and we were soon on board for the short ride to the top and the iconic views over Kowloon and the harbour.

You can pay extra to go onto the Sky Terrace Peak Tower but as the views were already amazing, we declined and enjoyed the sights. Several dozen photos later, including one taken by the tour guide and made into a nice china plate souvenir, we went back in the coach and on to Aberdeen Fishing Village. Here we paid around £6 each to ride in a traditional sampan around the many fishing boats and get a glimpse of a bygone era with a backdrop of modern skyscrapers.

Afterwards, we headed over to Stanley market and managed to get caught in a traffic jam so got there after it closed but, by huge coincidence, I literally bumped into Nicola and Kerry from cruise.co on a pedestrian crossing!………..
