Viking Cruises Do It Twelve At A Time – How Do You Name Yours?

March 27, 2015

Coming shortly after the news that Brits love river cruising, Viking River Cruises have launched a whopping twelve new European ships – we think they may even have outdone the rumours of Carnival’s ten!

The demand for European river cruises keeps growing and Viking River Cruises is set to meet the demand.

The order includes ten of the familiar award-winning Viking Longships and two custom river vessels made especially for the Elbe River.

The new additions bring the total number of Viking river ships to sixty (!) and comes only a year after Viking broke the Guinness World Record for the most new ships launched in a single day.

The new ships have been ordered due to the overwhelming popularity of Viking’s itineraries, including their Grand European Tour, Romantic Danube and Rhine Getaway. The Elegant Elbe itinerary also proves incredibly popular, which is why Viking are doubling their capacity on the Elbe with their two brand new vessels.

Viking’s official stated;

“Marking another year of impressive growth, Viking River Cruises today welcomed the newest additions to its fleet of river cruise vessels at a simultaneous christening ceremony in Amsterdam and Rostock, Germany. The company christened a total of 12 new river vessels, including 10 of its award-winning Viking Longships® and two custom vessels for the Elbe River. This event officially brings Viking’s total river fleet size to 60 and comes just one year after the company set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ for the most new ships launched in a single day.

“All 10 of the new Viking Longships will be deployed on Viking’s itineraries in Europe, including three of the most popular itineraries – Grand European Tour, Romantic Danube and Rhine Getaway. Also, as a result of high consumer demand for the Elegant Elbe itinerary, the two new specially designed ships will double the company’s capacity on the Elbe River for 2015.”

River cruising is becoming more popular and lines like Viking are spearheading the way forward – have you sailed on a river cruise yet? If so why not?
