Princess Cruises' New Entertainment Is "Wicked"

March 13, 2015

If you regularly travel with Princess Cruises, you’ll be pleased to discover that they’re upping their game when it comes to on-board entertainment! It has been announced that the line will partner with Oscar-winning composer Stephen Schwartz to deliver four new musicals across the fleet over the next few years.

The partnership is the first of its kind and is set to bring a whole new meaning to on-board cruising entertainment.

Mr Schwartz is a major creative talent from Broadway and Hollywood renowned for composing popular musicals Wicked, Pippin and Godspell. His career spans over 40 years, during which he has won three Academy Awards for “Best Song” and “Best Score” for Pocahontas and “Best Song” for The Prince of Egypt, three Oscars, four Grammys, and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.

“I’m excited about the possibility of using the enormous resources available with Princess to create new and innovative theatrical entertainment,” he said.

“Their on-board theatres are Broadway-calibre venues with state-of-the-art technical capability, and coupled with their access to first-rate performers, I see it as an extraordinary and almost irresistible opportunity.”

“I have already received overwhelming and enthusiastic interest from talented colleagues – writers, directors, and designers to whom I have spoken – and I hope together we will create new kinds of cruise ship shows to entertain and inspire Princess guests unlike any other productions at sea,” Mr Schwartz added.

His first musical for Princess will be “Magic to Do” and will celebrate his lifelong fascination with music. It will include some of his most-loved songs, as well as a brand new one written specifically for the cruise line.

Magic to Do will debut on-board Crown Princess in autumn 2015.

What’s more, the cruise line will mark its 50th anniversary, as well as the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music with a special screening of the film in the on-board theatre Movies Under the Stars.
