Beautifully cheesy river cruise ports

On my Amadeus River cruise we visited some lovely ports and Hoorn in The Netherlands was a particular favorite.

We dis embarked the ship and took a coach through to Volendam to the picturesque fishing village.  There were inevitably quite a few tourist shops but the village was like a little Amsterdam with canals running through the town.

The highlight of the tour was a visit to Edam….yes where the cheese is manufactured.  We had a talk on how the cheese is produced which was very informative and then we walked through the storage facility into the sales shop.  They had all sorts of varieties of cheese and yo could sample before you buy….as Erica is demonstrating below.

The cheese was enclosed in the famous wax which makes it great to transport, hence my family who are cheese fanciers has a sample of Holland on my return.

We then took the coach onto the center of Amsterdam where we re joined the ship for our overnight in the Dam.
