Cruises from New York

There's no denying New York is one of the most metropolitan cities in the word. New York is considered to be a leader in media, art, fashion, research, technology, education and entertainment, making it a fantastic place to begin your cruise from.

There are three main ports where cruise ships dock for New York - Manhattan, Brooklyn and Cape Liberty. Each cruise terminal offers great facilities for passengers with easy access to transfers to make your cruise from New York an enjoyable experience.

If you are planning to cruise from New York you might want to add a couple of nights hotel stay before your cruise so you can take advantage of all the attractions that New York has to offer such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Little Italy, Rockefeller Centre and Times Square.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal

The Manhattan cruise terminal first opened in 1930's but it was only after World War II when cruise ships like Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth started using the cruise terminal for their Transatlantic Crossings. The Manhattan cruise terminal is now the fourth busiest terminal in the USA and is used by P&O Cruises, NCL, Carnival, MSC Cruises and Holland America.

Brooklyn Cruise Terminal
The Brooklyn cruise Terminal is located in Red Hook just across the river from Manhattan. It was opened in 2006 and currently only serves Cunard Cruises and Princess Cruises.

Cape Liberty
Cape Liberty Port, Bayonne is on the New Jersey side of New York. It is seven miles from New York City and about 15 miles from Newark Liberty International airport. Since 2004 Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises have been using Cape Liberty.

With all the department stores in New York, it's truly a shopper's haven. A visit to Macy's Bloomingdale's, Saks, Fifth Avenue and Henri Bendal is a must. You can also pick up smart fashion at Madison Avenue, classic labels and jewellery on Fifth Avenue or fake handbags from Chinatown.

The Manhattan Cruise terminal is 15 miles from Newark international airport and LaGuardia Airport; with an approximate travel time of 45 minutes. If you are arriving the same day as your cruise departure then it is recommended that you arrive at these airports by 1.00pm the latest.

For Brooklyn cruise terminal, LaGuardia airport is the closest at 18 miles distance, followed by JFK which is 20 miles. Newark Liberty Airport is a little further to get from and with all the tolls will be the most expensive options.

As you would expect from the city that never sleeps, New York has hotels to suit all tastes and pockets. Be savvy and get a great deal by booking your hotel in advance. Manhattan is the central borough and it is where all the main sights are. Hotels in Manhattan are usually more expensive because of the location so look further afield for a bargain.
