My Ports of Call

Just to give you an idea of some of the Cruise ports I have visited, I have listed them below. So if you are planning on visiting any or would like some tips or advice on when to go or what to see, just ask.

Amsterdam, a dynamic and cosmopolitan capital with a friendly atmosphere, where you can enjoy a magical mix of World-class art, entertainment, nightlife and restaurants. All this in a setting where canal houses, museums and monuments serve as a unique backdrop together. Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is only a stone’s throw away from the Amsterdam central railway station and the city centre.

Glacier Bay National Park

This spectacular national park and preserve displays massive glaciers that stretch 3.3 million acres from the St. Elias and Fairweather mountain ranges to the ends of the fjords. It is home to an amazing world of marine life, including humpback whales, sea otters, porpoises and harbor seals. It also possesses the highest concentration of tidewater glaciers on the planet. And access is extremely limited.

Gran Canaria

 

Gran Canaria is the second most populous island of the Canary Islands, with a population of 838,397. Located in the Atlantic Ocean about 150 kilometers off the northwestern coast of Africa. Gran Canaria is located southeast of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura. The island is of volcanic origin. With a variety of landscapes found, with long beaches and dunes of white sand, contrasting with green ravines and picturesque villages.A third of the island is under protection as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Ketchikan , Alaska

This southern-most Alaskan port city is known as Alaska’s First City because it was the first major community travelers came to heading north. Founded as a fishing camp, Ketchikan is built on steep hillsides and is billed as the salmon capital of the world. A quaint village, the town is just three miles long and three blocks wide.

Livorno , Italy

The closest cruise ship port to Florence is Livorno—not that Livorno is actually anywhere near Florence. Livorno is a 90-minute car ride, or 80–100-minute train ride, from Florence .Livorno is a Renaissance-era port city on the Tuscan coast near Pisa.

Mendenhall Glacier , Alaska

The fabulous Mendenhall glacier is only about 12 miles from town and offers several opportunities to visit it.  Helicopter tours to Mendenhall are spectacular. The local bus will take you within ½ mile of the main entrance to the national park and the glacier for under $1.00 and there are several trails in and around Mendenhall Glacier.

New York

 

Also known as the Big Apple. Located on one of the world’s largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a state county. The five boroughs—The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island—were consolidated into a single city in 1898. New York is the most densely populated major city in the United States.As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. New York City has been described as the cultural capital of the world. Tourism is one of New York City’s most vital industries, with more than 40 million tourists visiting each year.

Nice

 

The Port of Nice is an important port of call for cruise ships on the Mediterranean Sea. Rich in its traditions and a centuries-old culture, not to mention nearby towns and villages all along the French Riviera it definately deserves your attention. It accommodates ships up to 180 meters long and is situated in Vieux Nice (Old Nice), east of the Colline du Chateau.

Portofino, Italy

Portofino  is an Italian fishing village, and upmarket resort famous for its picturesque harbour and historical association with celebrity visitors. It is a comune located in the province of Genoa on the Italian Riviera. The town is crowded round its small harbour, is closely associated with Paraggi Beach, which is a few minutes up the coast. Other nearby beaches include Camogli, Chiavari, Lavagna, and Sestri Levante.

Portovenere, Italy

Portovenere is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Portovenere’s harbor is lined with brightly colored houses and narrow medieval streets lead up the hill to a castle. The main street of Portovenere, lined with shops, is entered through Portovenere’s ancient city gate.

Sitka, Alaska

The City and Borough of Sitka, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean, in the U.S. state of Alaska. With views of island-studded waters and stately spruce forests reaching to the water’s edge, Sitka considered Alaska’s most beautiful seaside town.  Yet Sitka’s hallmark is its tenure and devotion to a culturally diverse past.

Skagway, Alaska

Skagway is a first-class borough in Alaska, on the Alaska Panhandle. It was formerly a city first incorporated in 1900 that was re-incorporated as a borough on June 25, 2007. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 920. The White Pass and Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad, part of the area’s mining past, is now in operation purely for the tourist trade and runs throughout the summer months.

Overlooking the Bay of Naples, Sorrento combines all the attractions of a town with the relaxed ambience of a resort. From the atmospheric cobbled streets of the old town to the brightly painted sunbathing platforms at the foot of the cliffs, this delightful town has it all. Surrounded by dramatic scenery, with cliff top hotels and sparkling blue waters below, Sorrento has long been a popular choice.

Tenerife

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is also one of the most scenically stunning islands in the world. Dominated by the gigantic outline of 12,402 ft.-high Mount Teide, this amazing volcanic island offers a
wide variety of landscapes and tourist experiences. The streets running inland from this promenade hold jewelry shops filled with fine silver goods and vast emporia selling the bargain-priced electrical goods
that make Tenerife such a popular call.

Vancouver , Canada

Often thought of as Canada’s most beautiful city, Vancouver is a gorgeous thriving metropolis that’s fortunate enough to be flanked by the ocean and mountains. With its numerous parks, beaches, gardens, museums, art galleries and ethnic diversity, Vancouver is one of those rare places that actually live up to its promise of offering something for everyone.

Zeebrugge – Bruges

Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as “The Venice of the North”.
