I’m California Dreaming! – My Ultimate Road Trip!

It all started with ‘ So how shall we mark our 40th Wedding Anniversary?’.  My immediate thought was ‘Cruise!’ but no, Hubs had another idea, which he has always dreamed of doing ‘when the kids are grown up and left home’  “We could do the Pacific Coastal Highway from San Francisco to Vegas?”

I did part of this route many years ago on one of my Travel Fam trips, (I’m talking the 70’s)  We drove from Los Angeles, to San Francisco, with an overnight in Pismo Beach, and a meal in the Hogs Breath Inn, Carmel (once owned by Clint Eastwood).  As I remember the scenery was breathtaking, and we visited the Redwood Forest area to see the mammoth trees!  I was in San Francisco at the height of the ‘Saturday Night Fever – John Travolta’ era, and the city was buzzing then!  We drove over to Sausalito, which is a very arty colourful area just over the Golden Gate Bridge.   My memories of this trip have faded somewhat, so thought it would be a brilliant holiday, and one where I would really appreciate the journey and scenery more than I did when I was younger.

So the planning began……  San Francisco is a must!  Alcatraz & a Bay Cruise, with tickets for the HoHo Bus to explore the city. A ride on a cable car,  a walk down Lombard Street and a visit to Fishermans Wharf.

Then pick up the Mustang (oh yeah!…) and drive to Yosemite for a couple of nights, to take in the magnificent scenery, and take a boat out on Bass Lake.  Then back to the coast for an overnight in Carmel and visit Monterey. (Hoping to bump into one of my all time 50’s Movie Star’s Doris Day – Calamity Jane!) She lives in Carmel.

Then onward to Los Angeles  to see all the popular attractions, including having our pic taken at the HOLLYWOOD sign!, and finally Las Vegas where the highlight of our trip will be a Helicopter Tour over the Grand Canyon with lunch! As well as take in a show, and might even try the Zip Line on Fremont Street!

I’ll be taking a zillion photos, videos, and may even ‘Go Live’!  This is a trip of a lifetime, and I am determined to enjoy it to the MAX!’
