Celebrity Edge Coming to Europe!

For me this is about the biggest cruise news in recent days.

I’ve harped on in previous blogs about the impressive looking Celebrity Edge, which is currently under construction by the luxury brand.

So you can only imagine my excitement when I found out that in 2019, she will not only be coming across to Europe, but she’ll also do a sailing from Southampton!

This is tremendous news for both Celebrity as a brand, and fans of their ships.

I don’t think I’ve been as looking forward to a release of a ship quite as much as this one because of the pure hi-tec, ultra modern, ultra luxury design, facilities, accommodation, and experience that the ship promises.

Of course there’s always a doubt as to whether the ship will be a hit or not. Ultra modern is not for everyone at the moment. But you cannot deny the future, and the future is the Edge.

The European sailings will feature departures from other major ports such as Civitavecchia in Rome, designed presumably to attract more nationalities aside from US and UK guests, and I think it’s going to do very well.

The last ship I got excited about was Carnival Vista, which had a great season in Europe, but alas it was short lived. Over to America she went, never to return!

Likewise with Royal Caribbean, they brought out Quantum and Anthem, and after just a handful of sailings, one went West and the other East for other countries to build their cruise base.

We have of course had Harmony of the Seas, and Britannia – but I think they have been fed back as size over substance – although I did enjoy the latter when I went to sample her a couple of years ago.

So it’s going to be interesting as to whether Edge will get the same treatment, or if she will replace Eclipse (a hugely popular and successful ship) in Southampton one day, perhaps 2020? Who knows…..

The strength of the cruise market keeps growing ever stronger too, with Cunard finally announcing a new ship, and MSC, one of our favourite brands, bringing more ships to Southampton, and releasing ships like the Seaside – which again looks totally unique and amazing.

It makes me pleased to be in this industry and it’s great that we can look towards the future with some of the most eye watering engineering at sea.

I think the next few years are going to be amazing for cruisers, so keep up with my blog and my Facebook pages to get all the latest news and info!

Thanks for reading, and as always, until next time….
