Balmoral is the largest and newest of the Fred. Olsen fleet, named after the Scottish home of the Royal Family. Still smaller than most cruise ships today, there are 710 comfortable cabins and suites and generous public space for the 1,300 guests on board. Balmoral guests can enjoy world-class cuisine and a great choice of on board activities and facilities. The main restaurant is Ballindalloch (named after the Speyside village and castle), while the two other formal restaurants are Avon and Spey; named after two of Scotland's most beautiful salmon rivers. Alternatively you can dine casually in the Palms Cafe. Visit the Morning Light Pub for a daytime cappuccino, perhaps returning for live music after dinner or take your seat in the Neptune Lounge for cabaret and musical shows. Or relax with a drink in the Observatory Lounge with its spectacular views out to sea.

We were in the Avon restaurant which we preferred to the much larger main one, The food was generally good but some days you did struggle to find something you...
