Amadeus Silver

I have just returned from a great trip with Amadeus River Cruises sailing down the Rhine and Moselle,

The Amadeus Silver is classed as a 4 star ship and is German owned, she was voted River Ship Of The Year in 2013,there are 3 ships in the Silver fleet, the nationality on board is very much Europeans, The standard of accommodation on board is very boutique style she has 78 standard cabins and 12  spacious suites, we had a beautiful French balcony which the window dropped down so you could lean out and take in the breath-taking views, She holds 180 passengers on board, the cabin was a great size beds twin or double configuration, lots of storage also,

We got on in Koblenz and sailed to our first port Cochem ,My favourite part of the trip has to be the start the lower part of the Rhine and Moselle This was the most stunning scenic views, it was breath taking at times, beautiful castle’s churches and vine yards, beautiful houses, was amazing sat on the sun deck in the beautiful sun watching the world go by and taking in the amazing views, whilst sailing Gabrielle told you all about the local points of interest and also the history which was great to learn more as you sailed,

Cochem was just amazing and so pretty the 4 of us got off and hired bikes, they have 5 on board and are all free of charge anybody is free to use them on a first come first serve basis, now considering I haven’t been on a bike for about 20 years I did well not to fall off!

The boys cooling down

We had a half day stop in Cologne and was ok but just like any other City I much prefer the small town and villages, as we arrived on a Sunday most things where closed until 11 and we had to be back on board by 1 so not much open had a wonder round, we then sailed onto Amsterdam this part of the Cruise wasn’t as pretty and very much industrial, Most of the time the ship docks in the middle of the town but on some occasions, it must dock further down the river the they will put on courtesy buses for everyone,

We had a shore excursion paid for my Amadeus we got off in Horn and took a coach to a Cheese factory, this was a highlight for me as a big cheese fan we got a tour of the factory and a chance to try all the different cheese’s, then we took the coach to Volendam which nice and much better than I had thought, lots of bars restaurants and a very lively place very pretty, we then headed into Amsterdam for a canal trip taking in all the sights of Amsterdam, the cost of trip was 54 euros and 5 hours well worth the money

The Amadeus have a beautiful sun deck which had plenty of space and sun loungers, towels and blankets are available all round the deck, I must say from a personal point of view it was lacking a small pool or jacuzzi on board and maybe could have had an outdoor bar or something just to gather more people on this deck,

She had a beautiful lounge area with bar and 24-hour tea and coffee, most people seemed to gather here after dinner, very low-key entertainment on board normally a singer, very relaxing in the lounge you can take continental breakfast and light lunch, she has a beautiful terrace at the front of the ship that has table and chairs and fantastic if the weather is nice,

Food on board was excellent great menu and lots to choose from something for everyone, also if wasn’t on the menu would try and accommodate you, drinks included with lunch and dinner wine and beer and soft drinks, your glass was never empty which I got away with saying I only had glass all night! one tip to be careful of which one the group got caught out, ordering a beer needs to be draught otherwise they charge you!

They have a gym on board spilt  on 2 levels also they have hairdresser and massage room,

One of the highlights for me was going through the locks which was amazing, and great to watch no room for error,

The staff on board where just fantastic from the minute you got on board was very homely, they couldn’t do enough for you, few things that would like is defiantly a pool on board the other silver ships in the fleet have these, also a few things worth knowing when booking an Amadeus Cruise, no shore excursions are included and transfers must be added on as an extra they seem to market as cruise only and you add everything on as an extra,

Overall had a great time on board and would certainly recommend this ship to anyone who wants a low key relaxing trip, and who just wants to just sight see and just wants a relaxing break then this is for you,
