Plague Outbreak In Madagascar

Its something you don’t think you would hear of in the year 2017 the word ‘Palgue’ , but this really is happening and lives are being lost on the Indian ocean island of Madagascar.

It has been branded an Epidemic by the World Health organisation as currently over 1000 people have been infected and 100 people have passed away from the Bubonic and phneumonic plague currently striking the Island.

There arent masses of cruise ships that visit the island but there are a few as Madagascar is on many peoples wish lists, and as you can imagine the cruise liners are having to pull out of the region and can not risk docking on the island and spreading the plague to passengers and elsewhere in not just the region but the world as cruise ship passengers fly from all over the world to join cruises.

Recently the Costa NeoRiviera was sailing the Indian Ocean and for health reasons and advice it could not call at the planned stops in Madagascar, they offered passengers onboard 150euros credit per person to do the unforeseen circumstances that they would not be able to dock in  Madagascar, and more importantly for passengers health.

But 1 passenger onboard, a 53 year old French man was not happy that Madagascar was going to be missed form his cruise itinerary that he decided to hold a mutiny onboard in the restaurateur and a protest , and then a second protest in the theatre which happened to be happening just as the sip was docking in Seychelles, the captain called the local police who boarded the ship and the passenger was removed from the cruise and flown home.

From time to time cruise itinerary’s are changed and this can be very annoying especially if its a port of call you have been looking forward to visiting but it is all part and parcel of the cruising world, normally missed calls are due to weather conditions but on this extreme case it was something completely different, The Plague and I know of if it was me and my family onboard I would not want to put our health at risk!
