London Dungeons & The Shard

I recently visited the Big Smoke with my family for my husbands 40th Birthday. London is a city I will never get bored of visiting, and feel grateful it is our country’s capital. Walking around and looking at all the history, you can see why it attracts tourists far and wide. Our Monarchy is something to be proud of and can be traced back hundreds of years. There are not many countries that have this. As we had been before I wanted to include places we hadn’t seen , and the Shard was one of them. Only being built four years ago it is still a new attraction.  Standing at 1016 FT it is the tallest building in London and the views from the top stretches to forty miles. To get to the top you can either climb the 306 steps or take the two super fast elevators that travel six meter’s per second. The elevator themselves are an experience! From the top of the Shard you can see all of London’s iconic landmarks, with Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast being the closest.

The elevator takes you to the 69th floor where you will find a bar (must be one of the highest bar’s in the world)  and you walk up to the 72nd floor which is outside. I’m not a fan of heights but after I had a Rose my nerves settled slightly. I even managed to walk over to the windows and touch the glass which is a big deal form me.

The next morning we visited the London Dungeons which we all thoroughly enjoyed. If you haven’t been I highly recommend it. You travel through the different ages with Henry Viii being the first right the way through to Jack the Ripper. Each history landmark you are met by a member of staff dressed how they would have in been in that era and they would act out what it was like then and what really happened. It’s difficult to explain and I will admit I did scream a few time, but it is funny and brilliant. I did think how amusing it would look on their C.V’s: Jack the Ripper, London Dungeons- definitely a conversation starter. Educational in an interesting way for everyone to enjoy. I will certainly be going back.
