Airshow takes over Weston

One of the perks of living in a seaside town is the yearly airshow that comes to Weston Super Mare every June and lasts the whole weekend. The whole town is buzzing with excitement and ethusiasm, and plane enthusiasts alike.  This weekend we were so lucky with weather, reaching the late twenties and even higher in some parts of the day.

Not only do we have our skiers filled with amazingly aerodynamics performances but our beach lawns come to life thriving with people walking around the various stalls and having a go on the different fair ground rides.

When I was small my mother use to drop me off at my grandparents and I would make them close all the windows and curtains as I was terrified of the aeroplane sounds. It’s funny how things have  changed now as I am a full fledged Red Arrow geek. I absolutely love them and each time I see them perform I get goosebumps. They are the best in the world at what they do and I have been know to travel a fair distance to watch them. A few years ago I came across a website which told you when they were departing local airports and Bristol is just up the road from me. I got the whole family in the car and drove them to the airport, there is a road that runs right along the runway and when people know  special planes are taking off it is really busy. This one year we were waiting for the Reds to come out of the hanger when the Typhoon took off first, and my goodness being that close the air around us shook. It was a moment I will never forget. Then we saw the Arrows take off two by two heading towards Belfast which was their next display. My ethusiasm has rubbed off onto my boys and they enjoy seeing them as much as I do. I also enjoy driving past Heathrow airport and watching the planes lined up waiting to land and then naming the airlines. So i must be a fully fledged geek- plane spotter.
