Ships or Art Canvasses – one or the other please not both!

I am afraid a rant is about to ensue as Princess Cruises have finally gone too far and joined the masses and in my opinion not in a good way!!

This is the reason for my rant!

Ships are supposed to be white not multi coloured art canvasses. These pictures have just surfaced of the new hull livery for the Majestic Princess which is currently being built for the Far East market, unfortunately it will be rolled out to all the fleet. At least I suppose they have kept the Sea Witch logo.

Norwegian Cruise Line has some of the wackiest displays of hull livery which have been designed by local  well-known artists.

Norwegian Breakaway which was launched in April 2013 had her livery designed by Peter Max who also ensured he had his signature incorporated into the design. As the ship was sailing year round from New York he incorporated the statue of Liberty, Manhattan skyline along with planets, stars and musical notes that apparently represent cosmic imagery! Twaddle I say but then again I have never been arty.

Norwegian promptly delivered another visual so called masterpiece in January 2015 when they launched Norwegian Getaway, which was designed by David “LEBO” Le Batard. He designed a hull covered with a mermaid holding the sun, Pelicans and palm trees which was to represent the ships home port of Miami.

Finally even our very own P & O had to dabble with the launch of Britannia and her huge Union Jack livery. They quickly rolled it out to the rest of the fleet ensuring their place in how to make a cruise ship look tacky (in my opinion).
