Starting your cruise with a bang….

lI love this time of year, as its always a great time to get the family together and enjoy the local firework displays.  Last night we all wrapped up warm and went over to our good friends pub who put on a great firework display… of course it was followed by some good food and wine!!

Fireworks is certainly a crowd-pleasing way to mark a special occasion, for instance a couple of years back I was on a 3-night mini cruise over to Bruges and as the ship sailed out of Southampton port there was a spectacular firework display for someone’s 70th birthday who was  a passenger on board.  What a unique and different way to celebrate a special occasion!  The passenger must have felt very over whelmed and will remember it for a long time.

Did you know that many cruises ships can arrange firework displays on itineraries throughout the year?

Maybe one of the most spectacular displays was when Cunard celebrated their 175th anniversary in May 2015 at the Albert Docks when the “Three Queens” was united.  According to many people the show was pretty amazing!

Of course Disney Cruise Line who  always know how to show passengers a good time really do light up the skies on their Pirate Nights, where after Captain Hook and his cronies try to take control the ship, Mickey and his friends refuse to stand for that and send him packing with an array of dazzling fireworks which are impressive whatever your age.

Then there are the fireworks in Madeira over New Year – this is when Madeira really does come to life!  They hold an astounding firework display in the capital city of Funchal.  With its amphitheater shape, the city is the perfect arena for the show and as the fireworks are ignited from barges floating in Funchal’s Bay the best view is from deck on your cruise ship.  The reflections of the fireworks in the Ocean are a sight to behold and guests can join in the countdown to midnight as the changing date is beamed onto Madeira’s dramatic black hills in the background.

Have you ever thought about arranging fireworks at a port?
