CruiseShips or SmartShips?

As always Royal Caribbean have pushed the boundaries of technology on their ships.

With all the exciting facilities to be found on The Quantum and Anthem of the Seas there is now more.

Good or bad? I’ll let you decide but there really is some great features.

Royal Caribbean are calling these ships ‘SmartShips’ and here is why.

These ships now provide incredibly fast internet connectivity at sea. Good.

They are ships that let guests stream music and video at speeds equal to those on land. Good.

They are ships that let you play Xbox Live with other gamers around the world. Good or bad? Keeps the kids happy but perhaps wasting their cruising experience.

And perhaps the one I am not to sure about, Drinks served to perfection by robotic arms. Perfection great, Robots?

How does this work? Well part of the new technology includes ordering drinks via a tablet in the Bionic bar. Make you order and then sit back and be entertained by the robots and their perfections.

Will this be the start to the end of human bar tending, service and interaction? And gratuities 🙂

I am sure today the answer is no but who can predict what lays ahead.

RCI Robotic bartenders.

This is not the last of robots on these ships though. Two70SM is home to a playful and agile troupe of Roboscreens that stage surprise performances during every cruise, creating scenes while soaring and twisting solo, or uniting as one.

In addition to this there is the Signature Vistarama, a 3 storey room that has floor to ceiling glass walls which transform into an expansive ambient surface that projects any scene, real or imagined.

Perhaps my favourite enhancement will be a view for every stateroom. With inside cabins being equipped with 80 inch LED screens and being projected with real time sights from current locations there will be no worry for feeling claustrophobic in an inside cabin as many people do.

The best way to experience this first hand is right on our door step. The Anthem of the Seas will be doing her cruises from Southampton next year and has already sold many of her cabins through-out the whole of next year.

All this is just a snippet of what is to come, there is also Smart Concierge, Smart Luggage, Smart check-in, click here to see all of the latest enhancements for these ships.

In my opinion overall it’s looking good. What do you think?
