Rome , getting to the port !

Well back from our lovely trip on the Celebrity Silhouette (more pics to follow I promise) I wanted to start with our new experiment of using the train !

We started with an over night stay @ the Champagne palace , this is around 500 metres away from termini station, now that sounds close, which it is, not understanding before hand how cobbled the streets are in Rome, so the suitcases did not like this too much, but it was okay, not for anyone with any type of walking difficulties.

The train runs from here every hour or so , you can get this for €15 pp return , absolute bargain, quite a pleasant trip, there are other stations further out, closer to the Vatican and other major sites with will also get you to the port.

On arrival at the port , be warned , there are NO lifts, so hubby had to carry both suitcases down stairs from one platform and up another flight to get back to ground level, everyone did it, jut a tad slower.

There are loads of shuttles then which will take you into the port for €5 pp or even cheaper a bus for €2 pp just a bit more of a walk , I recommend the shuttle as it drops you directly outside the check in.

Rome is big, the port the train station , I do suggest you give yourself lots of time to navigate around, from the airport to our hotel , we took a cab , €48 this is governed and is printed on the side of all of the taxi cabs to keep it simple. not a bad price as on the return we got the train from termini to the airport, as we were already in the station , and that was €28 for two, the train was cancelled and we had a few heat stopping moments when we thought we may have missed our flight home !!

End result, I would o it again , but cab from the train station !!
