Terrifying things you may encounter on your Australian Cruise

I’ve been looking at a lot of Australian cruises for people recently and came across some interesting articles.  I picked my favourites and thought I’d put them all together for you.

Of course Australia has the Sydney Opera House, the beautiful Barrier Reef, fab surfing, Ayres Rock, Bondi Beach and brilliant sunny weather for your barbie and Fosters (yuk!).  But what else can you expect to find Down Under?

How about snakes that can eat giant flying fox bats?

Although it may not be a bad thing as these bad boys can spread diseases.

Actually, snakes will eat anything.

He might have a bit more trouble with this one though.

Dingo’s are scary.  Even more so when they eat sharks…..

Did you know that jut one of these funnel web spiders which were found on a campsite could be fatal to a human?

Their earthworms are slightly bigger than the ones we have here in the UK……

Their jellyfish don’t even look like jellyfish!

And the ones that do look like jellyfish are 100 times more poisonous than a cobra!!

Australians are all too aware of the risks sharks pose to surfers.

But it’s not just sharks they need to watch out for.

In fact, crocs will turn up just about anywhere…..

And if you think you’ve escaped the wildlife and animals……

Have you encountered any of these on your trips to Oz?  Or do you have a trip planned?  I’d love to hear form you.

  1. I have lived in Australia (and overseas) for the last 70yrs, have never seen 3/4 of the “scarry things” you pictured!!
I guess you would call the article a “reverse tourism brochure” its sad really, why not ask the many many Brits we have living here what they think, have they ever seen any of the above.

  2. These photos are not common ocurrances. Don’t frighten people off by letting them think Australia is a minefield of deadly animals, reptiles and insects. It is far far more than that.
We have lovely sandy beaches all round Australia, mountains, deserts, waterfalls, rain forests, unique flora and fauna and the list goes on. Yes we have crocodiles and snakes but not on every street corner, like with any wildlife caution is always necessary when visiting their habitats. We also have koalas, kangaroos, platypus, echidnas, kookaburras, emus and many other species only found in Australia.
Australia is a very big country and you need to give yourself plenty of time to see as much as you can but don’t plan too much in one trip unless you have a year to spare. Don’t forget Victoria and Tasmania are also very beautiful places to visit. Perhaps plan an around Australia cruise to take in the best of the best in a short time.
From a proud Aussie who is spending 6 months visiting UK at the present and loving it. Cruised over on the Arcadia and will be cruising home on the Astor.

  3. What a load of rubbish! Loved the photos. Unless you planned camping in the bush you are unlikely to see any of the above in Sydney. Australia is wonderful. Just watch out for the sun.

  4. As your item is about cruising I wonder where all of these things are in Australia. I now live on the Gold Coast in Queensland, lived in Melbourne and Adelaide and have never come across any of these. I have cruised around Australia several times and have only seen crocodiles in zoo in the Northern Territory.
Please don’t scare the Brits who may want to visit this wonderful country. In my sixty years I have never encountered any of the creatures mentioned other than in the zoos.
In my 1,286 cruise nights I have not come across any of these.
I know you are only joking as you would not have found any of these creatures either.

  5. yeah have a cruise booked on Holland America from 30th January 2015, it starts from Sydney and cruises around New Zealand returning to Sydney. This is after visiting my daugther in Cambodia.
