Robots on board? Whats next?

Costa cruises has installed robots on board their new ship Diadema and those Robots, 5 of them, unlike Royal Caribbean which design them just to serve a cocktail in the bar, these are designed to entertain people on board by interact with them by dancing and playing games with passengers on board. They are the first in the world to recognize human emotions and react to it. That will be their main task. I still remember back in the nighties when I went to Las Vegas and stayed at the Luxor hotel, they had a similar robot that went around people and entertain them, especially the kids, however the difference then was that this robot was operated by remote control by a member of staff and not a proper robot like these are. The robots, called Pepper were designed by a company called SoftBank Robotics. Costa Diadema‘s guests can meet the robots in five areas of the ship. In addition to answering to direct questions addressed to it, Pepper is capable of drawing a person’s attention and starting an interaction when people come close to it. It is also able to speak three Italian, English and French. They will also provide guests with information about the ship like restaurants and bars, excursions, activities program, spa and shops. It is also able to provide guidance about destinations included in the cruise itinerary. Finally, Pepper can ask guests for their opinion about the cruise experience. The next ship to have them installed is the Costa Fascinosa  in September. This is a great innovation that is different to others and will make them unique , but then again probably will be copied by other lines. I wonder if some passengers will tip them? I don’t think so… I think they will be great with the kids on board, what do you think?pepper robot
