Steve's Full Itinerary

90 Years old and a First Cruise.

My last day today and then I’m off on annual leave for a week. I’m away on a Mini Cruise with Cunard on the Queen Mary. I have been aboard her once before but only for lunch on a travel agents day out. She was a nice ship and I’m really looking forward to spending 4 nights on board as a paying guest.

What’s going to make this particular sailing pleasurable is the fact I’m taking my Grandmother. She’s approaching her 90th birthday this year and has never ever been on a Cruise before and has always wanted to.

She used to tell us that when she was a child her Father used to work on The White Star line and build the propellers. I actually thought long and hard about what kind of Cruise I could take her on and I believe I have made the perfect choice. The Cunard line is a famous Ocean Liner and is very traditional. I’m sure my Grandmother will appreciate the afternoon tea, the white gloves and a grand staircase. To her this will be very much like  looking at the Titanic.

Had I decided on taking her onto a Royal Caribbean ship, which to be fair Royal Caribbean are my personal favourites. She would have seen a Rock Climbing wall and a Flow rider machine and I honestly think that it would have ruined her image of what she thought a traditional cruise should look and be like. So I pat myself on the back and believe I’ve chosen the perfect cruise for her first time.

This is only 4 nights and being a short cruise we’re only visiting Hamburg. However Hamburg is beautiful and I ‘m quite interested in an excursion through and old concentration camp which I know she will be interested in.

I will be taking lots of photographs so do check back here in a couple of weeks to see my thoughts and reviews on the Queen Mary and a selection of my own photo’s.
