Stacey’s Port Guides – Monte Carlo

This week I will be talking about the beautiful port of Monte Carlo.  i hoped to write about New York but my pictures are taking time to upload so I will do this next week!

Monte Carlo is an area of Monaco that some would class as the capital.  It is a very small place with a population is around 3500.  It is an area situated at the base the Maritime Alps along the French Riviera.  I would say that the place is most famous for the Casino and also the Grand Prix.  The main districts are all within walking distance of the harbour so you can really do your own thing here.  You will notice some amazing yachts in the harbour, lots of them are owned by famous people and royals!

The tour I would recommend would be the Formula One tour.  On this tour you can walk along part of the road, did you know that the Grand Prix travels around the whole of Monte Carlo meaning that residents can’t drive in places at race weekend!  The tour takes in a visit to the Monaco Classic Car Collection.  This is a collection of 105 vintage and veteran cars.  Perfect for any car lover!

If cars aren’t your thing, then try a Highlights tour.  Most of these tours give you a good glimpse of Monte Carlo.  You will visit Prince’s Palace Square and the Cathedral, this is where Prince Rainier married Grace Kelly!  The tour finished with a visit to the legendary Monte Carlo casino.

One thing to bear in mind is that you will do a lot of walking so wear comfortable flat shoes.  Also take plenty of sun cream.  Needless to say I didn’t, and got very burnt.  Not a good look when mingling with the rich and famous!  As you can see, there is plenty to see in Monte Carlo itself.  However you are also close to Nice, Antibes and Cannes if you would prefer to see them instead!

Let me know if you have any tips you would like to add!
