AT LAST! – SOME GOOD NEWS FOR LIVERPOOL

It has just been confirmed that the initial plans for a new £50 million cruise terminal in Liverpool have been given the green light. The new facility at Princes Jetty on the River Mersey will include passport control, a lounge, café, toilets, taxi rank and vehicle pick up point.A further £32 million will be set aside for upgrading the A565 to support the new terminal and a £20 million link road to the waterfront has also been planned.

A New £50 Million UK Cruise Terminal Has Just Been Given The Green Light

To me I think is great news because not only is Liverpool only forty-five minutes away, but It breaks the monopoly of Southampton and all the other ports on the south coast getting the majority of sailings from the UK. I have many customers in the North West, North East, Yorkshire, Scotland and the Midlands and not only is it the long distance that has to be travelled there and back to the south coast it’s the all the extra cost.

Can you believe it is nearly 50 years since Liverpool with it’s rich heritage and maritime history actually did regular transatlantic voyages. Liverpool is a fantastic city to visit, you have the birthplace of the Beatles and the famous Cavern Club on Matthew Street. You have Liverpool and Everton football clubs along with all the shops and night-life in this vibrant and cultural City.

You only had to see the success of the Three Queens two years ago in Liverpool to celebrate Cunard’s 175th anniversary to see how cruising and Liverpool fit together. I know the cost of the cruise terminal will be very expensive and will cost tens of millions of pounds, but I feel it would be a success. Not only will you have existing customers going on more cruises as the port is easier to get to but you have a lot more new to cruise who will go from Liverpool as they do not want to do the 10 to 12 round trip journey to Southampton.
