Is Cartagena becoming a new home cruise port?

Cartagena port

News have leaked from a local media company in Spain that Cartagena will become a cruise ship home port and that passengers can begin and end cruises in Cartagena

What we know is that at present passengers can embark in Cartagena but can’t finish the journey in Cartagena and have to disembark in Rome offering a 6 night’s cruise for the price of 7 nights. The only itinerary in question is the one for the 07th May and the itinerary is as follows:

Barcelona – Cartagena – Gibraltar – Day At sea – Marseille (Provence France) – Genoa (Italy) – Livorno (for Florence and Pisa) – Civitavecchia (for Rome)

We don’t know as of yet if anything is under negotiation and bound to happen in 2017. If Princess will allow a disembarkation in Cartagena from start to finish it will certainly boost the local economy. This is because people are more likely to want to spend extra time in the region of Murcia and will possibly require accommodation for a few nights before or after the cruise. Those particularly interested will likely be golf lovers who can enjoy a few days of golf under the sun whilst not compromising their cruising needs 🙂

One of the best golf courses is Hacienda, where passengers can always book a round of golf even if only stopping for 8 hours.

To this day Princess cruises can’t disclose any information. They haven’t confirmed any plans yet. Any negotiation will be revealed at much later stage and will announce any news, if there are any, with the 2017 cruise program.

I will keep you up to date with any evolvement
