This has got to be the best news of the month!

A pensioner tried to catch her cruise ship by swimming to it. All she had was her handbag and the worry of being left behind by her husband.  The good news is that she was rescued by fishermen who heard her crying for help after being in the water for 3 long hours, she was about 500 meters away from the shore just past midnight on Easter Sunday. She suffered from Hypothermia and was admitted to Funchal hospital for recovery.

It transpired that the couple had disembarked wanting to cut short their cruise and they were planning to fly back home from Madeira. After an argument they went separate ways. When Mrs B saw the ship sailing by the port she thought  her husband had gone back on board, so at that point she panicked, jumped into the water and swam to try to get back on it. After the rescue the Cruise company was notified who then notified the husband who turns out had flown back home alone. The ship in question is the Marco Polo Cruise&Maritime, who was mostly concerned as they thought the couple had flown back home together. The cruise company has offered huge help and they will now be making arrangements to repatriate Mrs B after a full recovery
