The Travel Industry

The travel industry this month has had a really hard time, with one thing another, first there’s been the hurricanes in many of the Caribbean islands and what devastation that’s caused, then last Monday we had Monarch ceasing trading. with all this going on its really put companies and agents under pressure.

We’d all seen on the news over the last month the many hurricanes that have devastated the Caribbean island some being completely ruined some weren’t hit as hard but still did damage which will take some of the islands many many months if not years to rebuild. but when we’d just thought that we’d got past this hurdle when then came into work last Monday with Monarch airlines ceasing trading.

Monarch have been around for nearly 50 years so for this to happen was really a shock to us as industry and to the many customer’s that were travelling with them or already away with them. Many people have lost there money and not been able to re-book flights as other airlines after hearing this news really put there flight prices up, which I think was bad. we saw airlines one minute charging £800 for some flights and within seconds they have gone up to £1800. Many people nowadays book there own flight and hotels separate as this will save them money, but what people don’t think about when trying to save them extra pounds is when airlines or companies go bust then have no one to rely on and where do they start in getting there money back if they can get some of it back?

When you book with an travel agent you get that security that if anything goes wrong one you get your money back and two we sort everything out for you,  we had our customer’s booked on new flights within hours of hearing about monarch and have had many customer’s writing reviews or sending us letters in saying how fantastic we was and how they so glad that they booked with us.

So my question is, is it really worth saving that little bit extra money or would people now decide to book with an agent? let me know your thoughts.
