Does the cruise industry need a shake up?

Does the cruise industry need a shake up?

According to Richard Branson it does! Last week he called cruises ‘awful’ and plans to shake up the cruising industry by introducing Virgin Voyages.

I love everything about cruising! There are so many different ships to explore and enjoy, all the fantastic entertainment, restaurants and activities and that is before the itineraries! Waking up in a new destination every day is just amazing!

The last ship I went on is the largest ever built, the Harmony of the seas which can accommodate over 6700 passengers. The ship really did have the wow factor. I loved all the different areas especially the central park and Boardwalk.

There were so many things to do, you could have spent a whole week just looking around the ship!

I am not sure I would like to spend a week at peak season on such a big ship. The thought of queuing so long for anything doesn’t really appeal! I know there are ways to avoid queues like the main dining room for breakfast and pre booking shows etc but I really do like to just go with the flow on my holiday! That way if you fancy a drink before diner there is no rushing or clock watching.

Richard Branson plans to build 3 ships in the next few years starting with the first in 2020. The plan to have identical ships to accommodate no more than 2800 passengers to attract a guest who would normally holiday in a boutique hotel. The ships will also be environmentally friendly by re-cycling water and waste!

I must admit, the food waste on a cruise must be enormous! This does bother me a little but would this convert a non-cruiser into a sailor? I am not sure

I look forward to see what else can be offered that is so different to the current market.

What do you think of the news?

Would you like to see a shake up in the cruise industry?

Do you think this will attract more people to cruising?

Let me know your thoughts!
