Roaming Ruth's Travels

Hairspray the Musical

Last weekend I took my children to the theatre to see Hairspray the musical. I love the theatre and so do my girls so we have been looking forward to it for a long time now.

It was booked for a birthday treat for my friend’s daughter who also happens to be best of friends with my daughter. They all watch the movie over and over again so already knew the story and the words to some of the songs but they were amazed by the show.

I have seen this before in the West End and it is one of my all time favourites even though I am not a big fan of the film.

If you enjoy the more lively shows this one is for you as it is packed full of music and dancing and the finale is excellent, every was up on their feet. Our children were all between the age of 6 and 9 and were better behaved than the adults in the row behind who talked most of the way through the first half.

Our mum’s came aswell and as my friends mum has grown up with family working in the theatre thought we should all dress up in wigs and glasses. Fancy dress is not really my thing but I went along with it and it was quite good fun in the end.

We went to a lovely Italian restaurant near to the theatre for a meal and of course a few glasses of wine and to finish off the weekend the sun was out and it was lovely and warm so we spent the rest of our time away enjoying the beautiful spring weather.

Now my girls want to know which show we will go to next so I have told them we will save the next one for a cruise. After all the theatre productions on some cruise ships are as good as the West End and in much nicer theatres.
