P&O Cruises tighten their bring-on alcohol policy as well as dress codes

P&O Cruises have made some recent policy changes which tighten things up a bit.

Firstly changes to dress code policy. The new regulations include a ban on custom group clothing with personal photos or slogans, as well as clothing with offensive messages and fancy dress outside of designated theme nights, which might include 60s, 70s, tropical, Western or black and white.

The new dress policy also requires passengers 17 and older to adhere to two dress codes — resort wear or leisure wear for “evening casual” nights (no light jeans, football shirts, trainers or shorts) and cocktail dresses or evening gowns for women and suits or tuxedos for men on “black tie” nights.

I think that the above will generally please cruisers overall as long as it is enforced properly on-board. I am not so sure whether these rules should be altered or relaxed for cruises of 3 nights or under though as these are more like party cruises and they don’t want to take away too much fun. I think short cruises should be treated differently.

Next are the new alcohol rules for bringing your own on-board. These new policies are hard to complain about as they are still more relaxed than most competitors. In comparison with their previous policy though things are a lot tighter so it’s never nice to have things taken away from you.

The new policy says that each passenger 18 or older is allowed to bring only one bottle of wine, Champagne, beer, spirits or liqueur up to 1 litre during initial embarkation. Additional alcohol, including any purchased ashore or in the on board duty-free shops, will be confiscated and held until the last night of each sailing.

It is a shame that you can’t for example bring back on a nice bottle of wine for a port you have stopped at to enjoy on your balcony but I guess this is now how it is going to be.
