What’s on the ‘Horizon’

Carnival have recently received delivery of their new ship the Carnival Horizon and she is due to set sail very soon this month. So what do we know about her so far.

She is the 2nd Vista ship for Carnival as they received their first one in 2016 funnily enough called the Carnival Vista. Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy liked to joke that it would be called the Vista Sista. As far as siblings go these two ships are very similar. So any Carnival fans who enjoyed the Vista will likely enjoy the Horizon. However a noticeable difference on this ship happens to be the ‘destination based’ lifts. What’s this i hear you ask? It’s a system puts all the lift floor commands on a touch screen in a waiting area, rather than having them clustered on a panel inside the lift itself. Just tap on your destination and the software assigns you the next lift that is due to head to that deck. The idea of this is to cut down waiting times. it will take a while to adjust to this if you have never used this system before. I haven’t so i would find it rather fascinating i’m sure.

Many of the features introduced on the Vista have been faithfully reproduced on the Horizon without any variation, including the Imax theater, the Family Harbor Lounge and the amazing Dreamscape columns that anchor the main atrium and the casino bar. On first glance the Havana Cabana appears almost identical to the Vista, however the tropical themed suites have been enlarged giving it 18 more cabins. 79 in total.

On the top deck, the WaterWorks children’s water park has been festively rebranded with Dr. Seuss themes, with Seuss characters prowling the premises. Kids can choose between the red-and-white Cat in the Hat slide or the blue Fun Things slide. There’s also a 300-gallon Cat in the Hat tipping bucket.

In the Atrium, expect new retails names including Michael Kors, Hublot and Kate Spade. the biggest edition for the Horizon is the Victoria’s Secret Store. this will be their first full store at sea.

Stay tuned in a few weeks i’ll cover the best part…….FOOD.
