On Board With Alison

A Buffet of Cruisers!

crow, American

I am very lucky to live in a house that backs on to a park and so I have a lovely view of trees and open space.

There is however one drawback to this…my early morning wake up call from a group of resident crows. This morning they seemed more vocal than ever at 5.30am!

Now in fairness, they are probably just welcoming in the new day, having a chat and greeting their neighbours, but unfortunately, they do not have the sweetest of voices in the bird world.

I lay there thinking, as I was now wide awake, trying to remember the collective noun for them and it came to me….A Murder of Crows!!! How apt, as I could have throttled them (metaphorically of course).

There are some other strange names for groups of animals and here are some of my favourites:

A Congregation of Alligators

A Sleuth of Bears

A Peep of Chickens

A Prickle of Porcupines

A Tower of Giraffes

A Cackle of Hyenas

A Shrewdness of Apes

A Crash of Rhinos

A Lounge of Lizards

This also got me thinking about groups of people and what names we could give them. Of course, I immediately thought of travellers, what else?

A Buffet of Cruisers

A Frustration of Frequent Flyers

An Irritation of Sunbed Hoggers

A Kindness of Cruise Crew

A Happiness of Holiday Makers……Any ideas???
