Speciality Dining Is it worth the extra Cost ?

With so many cruise lines now introducing Celebrity Chief’s on board their ships these days there is now a massive emphasis on speciality dining.
Cruise ships are renowned for the overall dining experience so why do they feel the need for more choice ? Money, most probable but I must admit if you are celebrating a special occasion nothing is better than a memorable meal. I feel the main dining rooms on most of the ships I have been lucky enough to travel on offered this, however the smaller more intimate venues offer that little bit more. So are we paying for the food or the ambiance? Each Cruise Line has its own selection with prices that can vary vastly.

I want to talk about the two I experienced recently on the Caribbean Princess these are the two Signature venues on most of Princess Lines Ships.
They carry a $29 dollar cover charge around £19.50 but personally I found them excellent value for money.

Sabatini’s an Italian with a very traditional feel of Italy is a bright and airy venue with a very comprehensive menu and wine list. Have no fear if you cannot decide what you fancy they offer to bring as many options as you like in a manageable portion. So I had two starters, a main and no sweet but some beautiful crisp white wine.
My colleagues had a variety of pasta, steaks and chicken dishes and we all left feeling very satisfied.

Crown Grill –

Wow this was amazing !!!! If I could only do one this would be it. The setting was rich with dark woods and deep red very glamorous and welcoming.
The service was alittle slow however, but my word well worth the wait. Again no holding back on what or how much you can have. We had been warned about portion size and just how fantastic the steaks and lobster are so we were all prepared.
Look at this lot, yes I ate the lot and tasted the lobster too.

So yes, on this Line the speciality dining options are well worth every penny. Not sure about the others but do intend to find out.
