Who am I

Now this post may cause some controversy, and I feel that it should not be swept under the carpet but I feel having read some disturbing news recently in the United States about paedophiles booking family cruises and I wanted to bring it all to your attention. I would be very interested to find out how well cruise lines actually vet each passenger that cruise on their ships. Do they run checks very much like airlines do??

Do they actually know anything about each passenger that joins their ships?

Now lets face it we are told that cruising is one of the most safest holidays to take, offering an amazing environment for all including families with children, having worked on ships for many years I was always surprised to see parents drop their guard regarding their children when on board a cruise ship, I imagine this was because parents were in holiday mode and  felt really safe with their children running around these big ships.

Lets jut stop and think…………what makes these large cruise ships any different from any town in the world, they have shopping arcades, restaurants, swimming pools, theatres, cinemas and can hold up to 4,500 people not unlike any small town anywhere in the world. So why do parents suddenly drop their guard once they step on a cruise ship?

Yes cruise lines take security very seriously and employ specialist crew members to protect everyone on board, but from what I can remember most ships I worked on would only have a small department of around 8 or 10 to manage more than 1,500 passengers!

Obviously I don’t want to unnecessarily worry families that love to cruise but I believe it is something that needs to be addressed and that parents should be made very aware of, these things do happen and that what you have to ask yourselves, is a cruise ship any different than the town or village you live in?
