As a former crew crew member I have seen many incidents happen on board ships, including rape, attempted murder, and suicide. People tend to forget a large cruise ship is like a small town, many different nationalities all trying to get on with their life and make money. As crew members we had to face the same issues anyone else would have to deal with back at home. What I’m trying to say is, it can be very hard dealing with certain issues when you are away from home and sometimes things just get the better of you and you think there is no other way out. I have witnessed many fellow crew members and guests who have just found things so intense that the only way to deal with things is to take their own life.

I know what your probably thinking, this is too morbid to use as a blog, but this is reality it happens every single day on board cruise ships, it almost becomes the norm.

Anyway when I heard about this story about the guest who fell from a ship many people were questioning, how could someone just fall from a ship?

Well too be honest it is very difficult to just fall from a ship, almost impossible actually. In all my years working on board ships, I experienced many overboard incidents and in every incident it was a cry for help, not an accident.

Thank god this person was lucky enough to have been picked up from another cruise ship and given a second chance. The majority of overboard incidents end in sadness.
