Themed river horticultural cruises

One major event on any keen gardener’s calendar is the Floriade Festival. This is one of the finest horticultural exhibitions, referred to as the “Theatre of Nature,” this global spectacle, held only once every 10 years, has the world’s most exquisite and exceptional flowers, plants, trees, and more on display. There are five unique themed exhibits, each with its own décor, and cultural programs of music, dance, literature, theatre, and visual art from all over the world.

Many River Cruise Lines are making special trips to Amsterdam this coming spring, and will be staying 4-5 days around Amsterdam, others are including the Floriade as part of a longer 7 night itinerary which includes the sights and sounds of the UNESCO-designated Upper Middle Rhine Valley, and its Dutch and Belgian tributaries, uncovering the best of old and new world Europe. The Floriade runs from 5th April 2012 through to the 7th October 2012.

The Floriade is a global spectacle in which many dozens of countries participate. Immerse yourself in a melting pot of cultures where you will be introduced to different customs and rituals. And of course there will also be plenty of attention for the regional culture of the province of Limburg. Enjoy typical gastronomic delights in our attractive restaurants! Here we will be serving regional dishes and refreshments, and all the meals will be prepared using seasonal products. Each day features a cultural programme of music, dance, literature, theatre and visual art from all over the world. Sustainable, pioneering architectural eye catchers, as never seen before, will be shown for the first time at Floriade 2012. With countless exciting, innovative and educational attractions & activities. You can also walk along a thematic route together with a guide or enjoy a bird’s eye view of the park from the 30-metre-high cable-car system.

Prices start from just as little as £399pp which includes a ticket to the Floriade Festival.

For all you ‘green fingered’ cruisers out there, what better way to see the world relaxing on a River cruise and combine this with visiting ‘Floriade’.
