Themed River Cruises

Following on from last week’s blog about Avalon’s Special Interest Cruises I have found out some more information about the Themed Cruises AmaWaterways has to offer. Slightly less than Avalon, AmaWaterways offers 3 themed cruises with a special cruise for 2012 – The Floriade Sailings – again like Avalon the themes are spread across 15 different sailings, so if you can’t make one date you won’t miss out! The other 2 themes, a part from The Floriade, is the celebration of Wine Cruise and the Jewish Heritage Tours cruises, I have explained all 3 in more detail below.

 

In Celebration of Wine Cruises – These customised theme cruises to showcase the acclaimed wine regions along the Rhone, Rhine and the Danube. These special sailings feature renowned hosts and include complimentary lectures, wine tastings and excursions to historic vineyards and cellars. Enjoy exclusive wine – themed excursions, such as a traditional ‘Heuriger’ tasting of new wine in the villages of Grinzing and Neustift on the outskirts of Vienna; an introduction to Alsatian wines at ‘Wunsch et Mann’ winery in Wettolsheim and an unforgettable ‘Oktoberfest’ in the village of Vilshofen created especially for our passengers.

 

Jewish Heritage Tour Cruises – The Jewish Heritage Cruises highlight centres of centuries – old traditions, modern-day museums and monuments dedicated to conserving the rich Jewish legacy of the region. Complimentary Jewish Heritage tours include visits to synagogues, Jewish districts and landmarks. A guide will lead the tours, which are open to all.

The Jewish Heritage tour also includes entrance to the second-largest synagogue in the world, The Donany Street Synagogue in Budapest, along with the Jewish Museum, Temple of heroes and Chatam Sofer. While in Vienna, visit the Jewish Museum, Judenplatz and the Old Synagogue; Sigmund Freud’s house (Outside), Jewish cemetery and the Jewish Quarter. The house of Oscar Schindler is a highlight of the tour in Regensburg. Passengers may also visit the court room 600 at the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, scene of the 1945-49 Nuremberg Trials.

Floriade Expo – This year, AmaWaterways is excited to offer our passengers the unique opportunity to visit the Floriade World Horticultural Expo. This very special event takes place every 10 years in the Netherland, and the setting for the 2012 Floriade is Venlo, a city in the Dutch province of Limberg. Bringing together more than 100 exhibitors from over 12 countries, the grounds of the Floriade Expo will feature five themed zones connected by wooded areas. Each of the zones contains its own horticultural exhibits, cultural attractions, activities, restaurants, and music as well as dance and theatre performances.
