Instead of keeping the ship running 24 hours in port, nine of Princess’ fleet can now plug into power sources on the dock side. This is a much cleaner and environmental way of powering the ships.
The port of San Francisco built a shore power station and Princess fitted their ships with compatable connections at a cost of $7 million. Only three other ports have the same plug in power sources, Juneau, Seattle and Vancouver.
Hopefully Princess’ competetors will follow suit in the coming years.
