An Ex crew members view….do we eat the same food?!

Ok so its time to dish some dirt coming from an ex crew members point of view. Now remember that I worked on board over 4 years ago so some of this may have changed.

Crew food. Most cruise lines have separate crew messes’. Normally two or three because all the crew have different shift times. The menu is rather limited, however there is a choice of several different dishes. All including rice and some sort of meat.

The food we received was not of the standard the passengers received, however sometimes we did get warmed up leftovers from the passengers buffet as a treat !! Yes unbelievable, warmed up leftovers, cost cutting gone mad I thought.

If you were in a privileged position i.e. a departmental manager you were allowed to dine at the passengers buffet but if a passenger joined the queue behind you then you would have to relinquish your place.

It does make you slightly angry when you are eating your beef stew which has been made for the crew and you find a piece of carpet in the food!! Now I’m not talking about a shag pile but it was the size of my thumb!!

My complaints fell on deaf ears as the food did not really improve. Lets just say I lost 2 stone in weight in the six months I was on board.

So If you see any cruise members eating ashore when you are in port then you know that the food in the crew mess is slightly dodgy!!!
