In case you have missed the massive news from Celebrity cruises , they have a new ship being built called “Celebrity Edge”

Edge is being touted as a game changer for Celebrity, pioneering a revolutionary new design which sees “seamless” (or infinite) balconies which increase cabin size and a platform on the side of the ship which doubles as a tender station and restaurant/bar called the “Magic Carpet.”

Marella Crui-who-ses?

So you may have heard that Thomson are re-branding to TUI, this revelation although mystifying to the public dint surprise us travel agents as they have been known as TUI in the trade for a number of years so this transition made sense and will helped to pull all their global brands under one name. Changing names from Thomson to TUI Cruises therefore would have made sense, especially as their new ships have been named in this ilk…Right? ………..WRONG! Enter MARELLA Cruises….. With near enough immediate effect Thomson cruises are no more and will from next month be known as “Marella Cruises”…baffled? … too! In my opinion it really seems to be an exercise of futility and is almost a kick in the teeth to the thousands of loyal passengers that love the brand. Surely money could be better spent in improving the fleet and services guests are offered? The word Marella — which means “shining sea” in Celtic..which again raises questions in my mind as to why ? and for what significance…. The ships will of course be renamed too and will subsequently be known as  Marella Dream, Marella Celebration, Marella Discovery, Marella Discovery 2 and fianlly the yet to launch Marella Explorer Speaking at this year’s Abta Travel Convention in the Azores, Helen Caron, Distribution and Cruise Director said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for our business. We’re really proud to offer an experience that guests can, and want to, come back to again and again and moving forward as Marella we’ve got brand new, modern additions to our fleet and more destinations, choice and experiences than ever before which really reflects our spirit of exploration and discovery within the new brand.” Ok so there are some changes taking place.. As part of Marella’s winter 2018 programme ,  Marella Discovery will be  based in Langkawi, Malaysia, and will be sailing to 18 new ports of call on 14 new adult-only itineraries..destinations will include ports such as Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Kuala Lumpur. This is a massive move for Thomson/Marella, but I do worry if a move to Adult only will affect business, the Discovery and Discovery 2 have been massive sellers this year and families have been the largest part of the audience I have sold this ship to so in my eyes it is a really bold move for TUI, although the new destinations look absolutely fabulous. The ship will also sail to India, calling at Mumbai, Mangalore, Mormugao (Goa), Cochin (Kerala) and Colombo (Sri Lanka), and to the Middle East, with highlights including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat. Again I wholeheartedly support the exploration of these ports for the brand. So ok Marella Cruises ….welcome (back) to the fold! I do look forward to booking guests on board soon and I am sure they will be a big hit!

It has been a little over a week since the atrocious attacks in Barcelona whereby terrorists used a van to target innocent people in the popular Las Ramblas are of Barcelona. Being an extremely popular port of call for many of the cruise lines it is good to know how the cruise lines react in such a situation.

Indie gets some upgrades!

We all know and love Royal Caribbeans Independence of the Seas, she is a firm favourite from cruisers sailing out of Southampton and to this day is one of the most popular ships I sell. Not a day goes by when I dont have at least one enquiry for a sailing on Independence of the Seas, so it is with great excitement that we are learning that Indie is going to go in for refurbishment and will gain some really cool features to make your family holiday even more exciting! Great news in my eyes as Indie has not had a refurb since 2013. The ship will enter dry dock in April 2018 and will emerge with some awesome fun packed features!
