Great news for Liverpool…………………………………………

It has just been announced that the Liverpool will be having a £50 million facility, which could open as soon as 2020, will enable the port to handle turnarounds by vessels as large as P&O Cruises’ 3,600-passenger ships. The port’s current limit for turnarounds is 1,200 passengers.

The terminal will be built on a suspended deck on the River Mersey, replacing the existing terminal on Princes Parade, which handled 61 ship visits in 2016.

This is super news for people from the North of England, very often I speak with passengers from Scotland and they face a very long and expensive journey to meet their chosen vessel. For me its great just 30 minutes up the road so I really welcome this change.

At the moment the terminal can only take smaller ships such as Cruise & Maritime and Fred Olsen, however this improvement will attract some of the big ships so very exciting to hear !

£32 million will be spent upgrading the A565 road to support the new terminal and this work will start very soon.

Liverpool is set to host 23 ships this year, including Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth, Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic and CMV’s Magellan.

Short break and party themed cruises are really big business and Im sure if the likes of P&O, Princess, Royal Caribbean & Celebrity put Liverpool on the map these will be great sellers!

Also pre night stays would be good for people who are not too familiar with Liverpool, to see attractions such as the Beatles story at Albert Dock, amazing shopping at Liverpool One, Museums, Liverpool  Cathedral  and a cruise on the River Mersey to name a few.

Top restaurants to dine and amazing nightlife, You name it Liverpool has it!

So is this something you would consider? Do you welcome this change? Would love to hear your thoughts, comments and feedback.
