Amazing Cirque du Soleil

Last month I had a wonderful afternoon watching Varekai by Cirque du Soleil. This was a Christmas present from my parents and whilst most certainly worth the wait.

Cirque du Soleil are a performing troupe which take circus skills from around the world and turn them into a theatrical show. Each show tells it’s own unique story through the medium of music, dance and acrobatics. Varekai is the story of young boy who falls from the sky in the manner of Icarus and lands injured in a forest of possibilities.

The performance is split into several acts with my favourite being the Russian swings where acrobats are hurled high into the air with all sorts of flips, twists and turns, to land in the arms of very strong and brave men. The trust they have in each other is amazing.

I also loved the act entitled ‘Slippery Surface’ where the gymnasts glide across a special floor and perform classic acrobatic movements. I have a personal love of gymnastics and acrobatics and can often be found trying to do moves like this with my son. Although I admit we don’t quite have the style of these guys.

Cirque du Soleil have teamed up with MSC cruises to perform on their new generation of ships, starting with the MSC Meraviglia which launches this summer and will sail around the Western Mediterranean.  The Meraviglia will feature a custom entertainment lounge designed in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil and the same will feature on her 3 sister ships in 2019, 2020 and 2022. Cirque du Soleil will perform 2 unique shows designed exclusively for MSC guests who will be able to enjoy dinner and a cocktail whilst  watching the show.

This collaboration is a real coup for MSC. Cirque du Soleil are renowned around the world and are particularly strong in Las Vegas.
Their permanent shows perform to 9000 people every night and 90 million people have seen the shows worldwide. MSC are very multi cultural, their ships are modern and vibrant and this partnership is sure to be a winner.
