The best Hotel in Cagliari Sardinia

Regina Margherita Hotel Cagliari

Having been completely spoilt by our Time in T Hotel Cagliari we didn’t really know what to expect when we pulled up outside this City Center hotel.

The first thing we noticed was the ships in the very near distance immediately at the top of the Road.

Upon arrival, the grey and frankly somewhat unimpressive exterior in its website photos made way to lush Italian marble and a superb use of glass and artificial lighting to set a spectacular modern feeling in the hotel’s elegant entrance.

Extremely helpful staff answered all of our exacting questions and arranged a tour of the hotel rooms and facilities for us so we could compare.

They suggested as they were fully booked they would upgrade us to a suite so they could more easily show us a standard room. Who was I to argue.

Our Room was set on the corner of the building room 457 all the 6 stories of the hotel have corner suits with their USP being the dual aspect view. One picture window superbly captures the city in all its rustic limestone and terracotta roof colours. The others perfectly displaying the port and the ships that potentially await you.

We enjoyed those moments of opening both windows wide and listening to the evening Jazz as the Sardinian Breeze lightly flowed. There was a set of dark mahogany wood double doors with an almost Japanese theme throughout. Lots of deep reds and dark wooden interiors. A space for reflecting and relaxing in the rooms entrance with a double sofa.

The showroom had a marble surrounding the basin B day and duel flush toilet. There was a modern double shower with 3 settings. 8 jets to lightly massage. The rain maker which gave fantastic overhead pressure and the attachment to complete the ensemble.

Everything was immaculate and there were Italian coffee making facilities as well as room service menus for both dinners and snacks.

One notable absence was free mineral water and no fridge in the room.

There is a knack to the key in the door as well which if inaccurately mastered may leave you locked outside. Trick is to push the door the very moment you hear the click on the card reader.

We didn’t eat in the hotel although the restaurant looked fantastic we thought it was too expensive in comparison to the vast array of trendy local eateries. In fact it was double the price with little ambiance as most people realised the fun and excitement was happening in the streets of Castello directly behind the hotel.

It’s clear the key to this hotels success among other things is its proximity to the ancient old town full of important historical artifacts and architecture.

It’s not only the closest hotel to the port but it’s the finest 4 star plus establishment in the city center. Sure, there are smaller 2-3 star boutique hotel offerings but they simply pale into insignificance once you experience the understated luxury of Regina Margarita.

Where could the hotel improve?

In our opinion Service at breakfast was a little lacking with no offer of personally served tea or coffee, the choices for breakfast was very much fresh continental options which seems to be the Mediterranean way. If you are looking for the full English breakfast then you would need to venture out.

There is no pool or spa here and no apology for it. It’s a city center hotel brimming with pride. It has that at the core of its USP coupled with traditional values. It’s a hotel for the tourists and romantics alike. If you want a spa hotel there are plenty on offer but you won’t find that here.

There is a romance about the Marina district and the old town of Castello lends itself well to the discerning explorer content on getting lost and immersed in the charm of the local surroundings. This stunning residence allows for this small boutique experience where nothing seemed to much trouble from finding a specific European plug to organising excursions and transfers this hotel does it all with a smile on its face.
