To the other side of the world and back in just 7 days

This weeks blog is dedicated to my crazy husband who has grand plans for his 84 hour stay in Melbourne…..

Many of us have our bucket list destinations etched at the back of our minds and go through life ticking them off one by one, some are lucky enough to travel alot before retirement whilst many wait for the ties of their career to fall away before getting the chance (and the finances) to travel to all the places they have dreamt of visiting.

I have lots on my list….Maldives, Thailand, China, Japan, Canada and Australia to name a few. Australia is one for me that I feel to do it properly I need atleast a month but ideally 6 weeks to travel around it. I have family in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth so I know Ill get there one day and have accommodation and personal tour guides when I arrive but raising two children under 5 aswell as working and caring for our two dogs has put my down under plans on hold.

My husband came home from work last week and announced he was going to Melbourne to watch the Moto GP with his best friend who moved out to Australia a few months ago having stayed for several months whilst travelling. I laughed as I thought he was joking. It turns out he was deadly serious and I wasn’t best pleased to start with as here I was thinking he was jetting off for a once in a life time trip cuddling koala bears, surfing the crystal waters and feeding kangaroos. My disappointment soon turned to disbelief when he laid out his plans to fly out on a Tuesday which would see him arrive Thursday morning. The boys will then do a day of sight seeing, two days at Phillip Island to watch the bikes and then flying home on the Monday to arrive back into the UK Tuesday morning.

I didn’t think it would come to fruition but sure enough, he’s had me book his flights. Crazy right? Apparently not that crazy as his friends Dad and friend have also decided they want to go too so the 3 of them are flying out to Oz and will be back home again in less than a week!!

Have you ever travelled to some far off destination and stayed for a short period of time before flying home and was it worth it?
