$7.95 for a pastry?

Wow that’s a pricey pastry…
That’s what you’ll be paying on board Carnival Cruise Lines from May once they trial there new ‘convenience charge’ from the new enhanced room service menu.
A statement from the cruise line says new items featured on the menu will include sushi, chicken wings, fried shrimp, quesadillas and personal pizzas, which will range in price from $4 to $7.

However, Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen tells us that free selections will still be offered 24/7 via room service; they include hot and cold sandwiches, salads, desserts and Continental breakfast items.

According to the statement, the aim is to increase the food quality and number of choices available for in-room consumption.

Are the cruise lines just trying to get extra money from wherever possible now?

Norwegian Cruise Lines have added a ‘ service charge’ to there room service menu and P&O have also increased there discretionary gratuities from £395 per day to £5.00 per day…….could this be because more passengers are removing the service charges and paying there gratuities themselves to the staff members that have actually served them rather than the cruise lines deciding who gets what.
