What to avoid on cruises, part 2

After my posting about what to avoid during cruises I received many calls of customers telling me their things to avoid. I have collected some of their views and listed them below. Check if you agree on these or not. Also, feel free to let me know what you like to avoid when on a cruise.

Following is a list of seven things that one must avoid on cruises to ensure that the vacation does not turn into a disaster.

1. Avoid traveling with a companion who refuses to do things that you like and insists that you do things that he/she wants.
There are many activities on a cruise like bingo, mini-golf, sunbathing, casinos, shows, etc. However not all may be to your liking. But if your companion insists that you accompany him/ her every time then you might end up not enjoying those or doing things alone that you enjoy. Both don’t seem like good options on a cruise.

2. Avoid traveling with someone who is incompatible.
They may be your friends or family but if the tastes are opposite then it’s best to avoid traveling with them. For example if you are a non smoker and a teetotaller and traveling with a group of friends who intend to party and drink throughout the voyage then you may feel uncomfortable.

3. Avoid the same set of people for dinner every night.
While most of the time you might meet strangers and make friends on the dinner table, it might happen that there would be some idiosyncrasies of your fellow travelers that you might not like. The waiters would then dread serving your table. Hence it’s best to have an escape route planned just in case things get out of hand.

4. If you are the type of person who doesn’t like going out of the room, watching TV, hates walking the deck or visiting the shops and is forced into doing these things then you need to have an attitude adjustment done before you go on a cruise. Most people with this attitude will seldom enjoy a cruise.

5. Avoid going on a radical cost cutting spree when on a cruise.
Most people feel that once they have paid up for a cruise all expenses are taken care of but they fail to read the fine print. And when reality strikes they start complaining about how expensive the umbrella drink was or that they had no idea the T-shirt would cost so much. Cruises are great but you need to spend some more to avoid spoiling the experience.

6. Avoid being stupid.
Some people feel that since they are on cruise they can do whatever they feel like. For example sunbathing for 12 hours, drink excessively, leave the wallets unattended. While cruising is generally safe and fun, it’s best not to throw common sense overboard.

7. Avoid going unprepared.
It’s always advisable to make some preparations before taking a cruise. Make a check list of things you need to carry on person like passports, car keys, house keys, toiletries, medicines, etc.

    5. Agree – worry when the credit card bill arrive!
    6. Agree – but it’s nice to be a little reckless on a cruise. For example I never go in a casino, but on a cruise I alway do. Just won $200 on Brilliance!
    7. Exactly – and use cruise forums they are a great way to get information and tips.
