Shore Excursion Itineraries need to appeal to younger generations……

Cruise lines have been told at the World Travel Market that they need to come up with new and more creative shore excursions to appeal to cruisers who are getting ever younger. Gone are the days when only the older generation could afford to enjoy cruising. These days it is something that appeals to, and is affordable for, families and younger couples too.

Anyone can do the usual historic sightseeing walkabout, the sort of thing usually offered by the ships (and much chaper going solo, so the cruise lines need to start to ‘think outside the box’ a bit more to come up with some real experiences to tempt people, especially the younger people who are not so easily impressed and want more than just a nice view and a momento shop.

I personally always do my own thing as it is much cheaper, and as long as you are in a couple or small group you are perfectly safe to do so. The only place I would always recommend that you join the ships group is in Russia. You won’t have to buy your own Visa then, and you are much safer travelling in a group in Russia.
