Royal Caribbean – the Good Samaritan

This morning the Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas, arrived in Labadee, the first cruise ship to do so since Haitis capital Port-au-Prince was devastated by an earthquake.

Earlier this week, in the port of San Juan, the ship stocked up with relief supplies of rice, dried beans, tinned foodstuffs, dried milk and water which will now be distribuated by the charity Food For The Poor in Haiti.  Royal Caribbean are also donating 100% of net proceeds from todays shore excursions to the cause, and are committed to donating $100 million in relief aid. Passengers on board their ships can make a donation via their on board accounts or donations can be made via the Companys website.

I think it’s great to see Royal Caribbean making such a huge gesture to help these people. I think it shows that even these ‘cruise giants’ have some compassion.
