Boutique River Cruising….. What’s that? Part 2!

Carrying on from last week’s blog here are few more pointers about Viking River Cruises and Avalon Waterways.

Viking River Cruises have a unique Scandinavian-influence onboard; interiors are designed to be sleek, comfortable and uncluttered in appearance. Furnishings are crafted of fine woods; fabrics and wools, cashmeres, cottons and linens in a neutral palette to provide the best possible backdrop for the breathtaking passing scenery. With Viking, every stateroom is an ‘outside’ stateroom – with a river view through a picture window or French balcony. Most windows open, and in China, all staterooms have balconies. Most staterooms are deluxe, which means they have hotel-style beds with European linens and duvets. There is also plenty of wardrobe space and a place to stow your bags once you have unpacked. All rooms have a private bathroom, with a shower, which is stocked full with L’Occitane products (The same as Uniworld). Viking pride their cabins being ‘your home away from home’ and want to make sure it feels that way, with quality amenities in you cabin; including slippers, wooden clothes hangers, a vanity set and complimentary bottled water daily.

With the average age of ship just two years old, the Avalon Waterways fleet breathes luxury and comfort. Elegant, contemporary design, state of the art technology and attention to every detail distinguish their ships from all others. Generous in space, and spirit, you will discover it is the little details that make the biggest difference; fresh flowers in your stateroom, enhanced soundproofing, marble bathrooms, designer lighting and their unique whisper-quiet engines. With the largest staterooms in Europe – at least 15% larger than other river cruise ships – every stateroom is light and inviting, and beautifully-appointed. With ample storage space, most staterooms also feature French balconies and panoramic windows. Celebrate a new era in river cruising with the launch of the Avalon Panorama, the first of their new Suite Ships with Open-Air Balconies™. The Panorama Suites offer a minimum of 200 sq ft of luxurious living space in which you can relax and gaze at the epic views, read a book, or enjoy a romantic meal. With two Royal Suites and 17 deluxe staterooms that are 30% larger than any other small ship in Europe. With thoughtful touches that enhance your personal comfort include deluxe woven carpet, L’Occitane toiletries, scented sticks, quality robes and slippers, and our own branded Comfort Collection; a premium-bedding collection that offers you a choice of pillows, mattresses and fine Egyptian linen, this is panoramic cruising at its best.
I don’t know if I mentioned it before but in three weeks I am off on a river cruise down the Danube from Vienna to budapest with my colleague Jess on an Avalon boat. I am so looking forward to it – especially the Benedictine Abbey at Melk. Our Chairman Andrew Gardner has told me it is breathtaking!
I have already packed my shorts and pac-a-mac – can’t wait!
