Its oh so quiet, sshhhh shhhh, its oh so still. UNTIL….

You might be wondering why I am quoting a famous song by Bjork?  Well I think this song kind of sums up one of my favourite experiences from the Celebrity Eclipse cruise last week, and that was the silent disco.

Now I had heard of a silent disco before, but I had just brushed it off as a gimmick for students who couldn’t afford a DJ at their student union, so all went down with their iPhone’s and listened and danced around to music in their bar.  Now this may be the case for a lot of student union bars, but this is not how celebrity Cruises do this with their Modern Luxury.

For those of you who still aren’t sure what a silent disco is, it is a disco as the name says on the tin, but rather being in a room with a DJ blasting loud music to everyone (oh how old do I sound), everyone who attends gets a set of wireless headphones, so they can join the disco and listen to the music whenever they want.  And to anyone around, technically the room is silent as no one else can hear what is going on, you just see a group of people looking a bit scary dancing round the room to an unknown track.

I was sceptical about trying this when I first arrived as it looked like a bit of a mad house and I thought that I would be a tad self-conscious without the music to hide my voice of an angel if I sang along.  But it was one of the highlights of my trip, and anyone who sees this on their next cruise needs to try it.  The beauty of it is that you get given three channels on the headphones all playing simultaneously, and depending on the channel, changes the colour of the light on your headphones (red, blue and green), and you see a group of people dancing or singing who are on a different channel and you change colour, and then you try and get all your friends to change and dance along, it becomes this whole hysteria of fun that could go on all night.

Be warned, when you do take your headset off and take yourself out the moment and break the spell, you do look around the room and think you have fallen into the world’s worst choir as all the voices of people who don’t realise they are singing along to multiple songs merge in voice.

I do promise you this, try it, you will love it.  Take a look at this video one of my colleagues took from above the disco.  why would you not want to try this?
