Tea for Two at a Medieval Abbey

Last Sunday I spent the day at Coombe Abbey.  My sister had treated me to an Afternoon Tea earlier in the year for my Birthday and we chose Coombe Abbey as we had never been and it looked nice.  The weather on Sunday was lovely.  It took us about 45 minutes to get there are we arrived slightly earlier than our pre booked time.  We were seated straight away and told what we could have from the menu.  Within minutes our afternoon tea was on our table and our choice of tea.  We both opted for fruit tea to try something different.  The afternoon tea was served in a conservatory and there was a piano playing in the corner.  It was a lovely setting and we really enjoyed the food.

It was very busy in there and seems very popular.  Once we had finished our afternoon tea we thought we would take a walk around the grounds.  The hotel itself is really nice and we had a walk around.  We then stepped out of the gate and we were into the Country Park.  This area was so busy with people having picnics and even bbqs on the lawn.  There was a walkway along the water and plenty of places to sit.  As the weather was so nice it was nice just to sit for a while and make the day of it.  We then decided to go back into the hotel grounds and have a drink.  They had a pop up bar outside with table and chairs and we sat there for a while.

I do like a good afternoon tea and when the weather is nice it makes it even better.  I have tried many afternoon teas on board cruise ships and I must say my favourite is QM2 in the Queens Room.  When I did a transatlantic sailing we went there most days and it is a really good service.  Another unusual afternoon tea was on board the Britannia in the Epicurean.  This was different to most afternoon teas.

Overall I really enjoyed my afternoon tea at Coombe Abbey and also spending some time with my sister as she will be going to China in a few weeks where she will be working for about 5 weeks.
