Getting Back To Normal!

Normal services are being resumed!

Well after some stressful and unprecedented weeks the travel industry seems to be getting itself back on track.

Let me assure you that it’s not been one of the best times – what with hurricanes, typhoons, the unfortunate demise of Monarch airlines – it really made me start to question what else could go wrong!

Even fog has played a major part in the disruption. Last weekend Venice was fog bound – cruise ships could not dock and more importantly passengers could not disembark and catch their flights home – the majority had to overnight in Venice and then fly home the next day – who would of thought it!

Thankfully, some of the Caribbean ports are starting to open in time for the cruise season. The next few months are so important to the Caribbean Islands, many of the inhabitants rely on the next few months to pay sufficient income for twelve months.

The port of San Juan in Puerto Rico was badly hit by strong winds causing power failures, hopefully the port should be back open for business on 01st December.

Other ports that are re opening soon include Guadeloupe, St Croix, Antigua and even St Maarten that was devestated should be accepting a minimum of 2 cruise ships a day throughout the 2017/2018 winter cruise season- what fantastic news!

This only makes me reiterate the message I gave out the other week – whatever you do, wherever you travel – it may seem clever to save £40 or £50 by booking your holiday as individual elements – but what happens when it all goes wrong? Who is there to make sure you either a – get home safely or b – you at least get to travel on your cruise?

Just think of this – to get people home from Venice to the UK last weekend on a new flight, new transfers and a hotel was costing anywhere from £500 upwards – would you want to pay this out of your own pocket with no refund from your travel insurance? I don’t think so!
